Tsunami

R. Milian

The great waves covered the houses and little huts like
huge fishermen’s reds extending in different directions.
No fish were caught but the dead bodies of countless souls whose lives
were interrupted by the powers of nature.

Headlines round the world cry the number of people who perished,
but no one measures the tragedy in human terms.

But I ask myself, “Who were the children who died and whose futures were robbed?”
“Who was the old woman sleeping beautifully never to awaken from her dead dreams?” Who was the man who had the hopes of becoming somebody in order to provide for his family?”
The world reflected on that day for a few seconds, minutes, perhaps somebody shed a tear, but for those souls life was extinguished without any anticipation, yet those who survived will try to recapture their futures
